How to Treat Slurry Water with Polyacrylamide

Polyacrylamide (PAM) is a synthetic linear organic polymer with excellent flocculation performance. It is recognized as one of the most effective flocculants at home and abroad. It is widely used in industrial wastewater, municipal water treatment and sludge dewatering. Especially in the practice of slurry water treatment, polyacrylamide as a flocculant has achieved great technical and economic results, and has become an indispensable link in the process of slurry water treatment.   Characteristics of coal slurry water: coal slurry water is composed of coal and water. Its main properties are: concentration of coal slurry, viscosity, ash content, chemical properties and particle size of coal slurry. Particle size composition of coal slurry largely determines the difficulty of settling process of coal slurry water. With the increase of particle size and fine particle content, the Brownian motion of particles will be aggravated, the viscosity of coal slurry will increase, and the particle size will increase. The interfacial charge repulsion effect is obvious and makes the slurry water have some colloidal properties, which makes it difficult to clarify the slurry naturally. The main characteristics of slurry water are high concentration, fine particle size, high ash content, most of the particles are negatively charged on the surface, which make these particles disperse in water. They are not only affected by gravity, but also by Brownian motion.   In addition, slime water has not only the characteristics of suspension, but also some properties of colloid. The fine slime in slime water has very small particle size and can not coagulate into larger particles. It keeps relatively stable and does not settle for a long time. In order to accelerate the settling of coal slime, this stable state must be destroyed. The interaction between coagulant and colloidal particles mainly depends on electrostatic force and intermolecular force, which is weak.   However, the interaction between an organic polymer as an ionic flocculant (e.g. polyacrylamide) and particles not only has electrostatic force and intermolecular force, but also has strong hydrogen bond and other chemical bond binding force. Cationic polyacrylamide is generally used to treat peat water. Although the molecular weight of cationic polyacrylamide is relatively low, it is especially effective for the flocculation of fine particles with negative charge such as sediment.
